Carers Rights Day 2019: What Is It?
Tomorrow, Thursday 21st November, is Carers Rights Day, a day organised by Carers UK to help carers:
– become more informed of their rights
– find out where to get more support and help
– raise awareness about their needs
As of 2019, there are estimated to be around seven million carers in the UK – which translates to roughly one in ten people. It’s estimated that three out of five people will be carers at some point, whether that’s for a spouse, family member, or friend.
Often, becoming a carer for something is unplanned, and this can leave many people without the proper support they need and without the proper information they need on what support is available.
Carers UK reports that around 6,000 people in the UK become carers every single day – juggling their new responsibilities as carers with negotiating working hours, caring costs, finding the right benefits they might be entitled to, as well as trying to keep up with their own life responsibilities too.
What is Carers Rights Day?
Carers Rights Day gives organisations the opportunity to unite and help carers get the information, support, and increased awareness they need.
The day is organised by Carers UK and supported by Nutricia Advanced Medical Nutrition, but there are hundreds of events you can get involved in throughout the country.
